Brand Identity

The theme of the issue came about due to the unique situation we were in, as a community. COVID-19 affected all of us and the world needed a space for political, social, physical, mental, and emotional awareness. SPACE(S) involves me and you, here and there, together and apart, fast and slow, everywhere. What SPACE(S) are you in? What does SPACE mean to you?

Type & Design Styles

We collectively brainstormed keywords that reminded us of Space and this led to a focus on large, space-consuming Sans Serif typefaces to vibrant neon colors.

The Magazine

The final issue consisted of dark pages with contrasting elements. Utilizing an outer space theme with ultra-wide texts, the result was an expressive book with importance on the art pieces with smart layouts of text bordering each page.

Social Media

Woo Publication

While assisting in designing the magazine, my main focus was on managing the WOO Publication Instagram page. I created templates and followed our brand identity for our engagement posts. We incorporated motion graphics, videos, 3D models, and photos to create a unique scrapbook-y feeling to our Instagram feed. We also designed Instagram filters for our followers to tag us. During the 4 months that I led the Social Media pages, we amassed 100 followers, our target audiences were students and alumni.

Instagram Filters

We used Spark AR Studio to import our images and animate the two filters.

Faces of Emily Carr

While managing the WOO Instagram page, we also worked on it’s side project, Faces of Emily Carr. It’s purpose was to introduce students of Emily Carr University by displaying their advice, practices and personality to inspire current and future students.

Photographer and Illustator

My role was to photograph and illustrate portraits for posts while Nicole Yamamoto designed the templates. I collaborated with the editorial team and we posted one interview every week. While they interviews the students, I pieced together their noteworthy quotes into slides along with fun visuals. I also created a library of stickers for adding to slides.
