tedxEmily Carr U

TedxEmilyCarrU is an organization promoting the voices of our community and under the Tedx organization as a whole. The 2021 event theme, Re-Cognize, inspired the visual identity to include bouncy, two toned circle visuals in line with the traditional Tedx style. The theme, Re-Cognize, is defined as the method of understanding or seeing all points of view.

Process

Ideation

The first thing we did was brainstorm themes and keywords surrounding “Re-Cognize”. What does it mean to recognize or re- something? Where and when do we recognize? How does recognizing help our community? Using these questions, I then asked everyone to draw what Re-cognize looked like to them, we created visuals and wrote keywords on how it was represented.

Creative Styles

Colors, fonts, assets

With my team, we designed a style that would be able to showcase its meaning in an abstract and versatile way for all mediums to utilize easily. Subtle- textured circles with gradients colors symbolize overlapping ideas and conversations. The circles can shape into speech bubbles, venn diagrams and eyes. the possibilities with the graphic are open ended, just like how the theme is interpreted.

Deliverables

Social Media

The animation was split into three sections, displaying each person’s style. From big ideas to small, from many to one, the visuals are always playing with volume and how it ties into us humans. The end result is a human brain, reminiscent of the TED Ed animation intro.

Website

The website incorporated the circle pattern in the background and we had a included a home page, about page, Speaker list, sponsor list along with previous TEDx event archives.

Borderline Boundless

Extras for Borderline Boundless

Along with our main event, we also worked with TEDxYouth Columbia to create a TEDxYouth Salon event. Our team was in charge of the visual identity, social posts and Zoom event presentations.

The planning phase was only a month long before the date, and these were the Instagram posts used to promote it. We centered the theme around hands and lines connecting us together relating to the distance not stopping us.
